The Ibotta app is available for free for both iPhone and Android devices, and allows you to literally make money while you shop. Yes, you read that correctly – rather than incentivizing your loyalty with points, discounts, rewards or similar gimmicks, Ibotta allows you to earn cash by buying products at participating stores.
How does it work?
Simply download the Ibotta app on to your device, then select a product offer. Each product offer will have tasks associated with it. These tasks vary from responding to polls to watching videos to answering trivia questions, but are invariably simple and easy to complete. Once you have completed a task, the associated credit for that task will be credited to your account. (Offers expire, so be sure to use your credits promptly.) After you receive your credit, go shopping for the credited item or items at a participating store (there are over 50 participating stores at this time, including Walmart, Whole Foods, Safeway, Target, 7-11 and many more).
Once you have made your purchases, take a picture of the receipt and barcode scan the relevant items – you will be credited money for them within 24 hours. With some participating stores, all that you need to do is register your phone number or membership card number and then use the relevant number during checkout – Ibotta will take care of things from there! If you link your Ibotta account with a pre-existing Paypal account, or create a new Paypal account from within the app, you can transfer your Ibotta cash to Paypal once you have accumulated $5 or more in credit.
